It’s that time of the year, folks! Farmers markets all over southeast Michigan are opening their proverbial doors to local farmers to set up shop and sell their wares. Did you know, centuries ago, selling directly from producer to consumer was the primary way farmers and other producers sold their goods? The advent of things like trading posts became more commonplace and led to the more common grocery and general stores we have today.
But, that hasn’t kept the farmers market community from setting up shop every season, which is why we’ve made a list of some farmers markets local to southeast Michigan. Check it out!
Ypsilanti Farmers MarketPlace
Opening May 3 this year, the Ypsilanti Farmers MarketPlace is a new year-round, indoor-outdoor venture for Growing Hope, the 501c3 nonprofit organization that has hosted a farmers market in downtown Ypsilanti for over ten years. Having relocated in 2015, Growing Hope began work on the new venture and is prepared to open the space up to vendors and shoppers alike every Tuesday, beginning May 3, from 3:00 ‘til 7:00 p.m.
Mount Clemens Farmers Market
Since 1979, the Mount Clemens Farmers Market has been a place for Mount Clemens residents to get their fill of local grown produce directly from the farmer. More than 50 farmers partake in the Mount Clemens Farmers Market every Friday and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. ‘til 1:00 p.m. This year, the MCFM opens Saturday, May 7.
Ann Arbor Farmers Market
This year marks the 97th season of operation for the Ann Arbor Farmers Market and while it is open year-round, it will be extending its hours beginning in May and through December. Ann Arbor Farmers Market will be open Saturdays and Wednesdays from 7:00 am until 3:00 p.m. May through December. Visit the Detroit St. location in Ann Arbor and enjoy the smell of fresh produce, native plants, artisanal baked goods, slow-roasted coffee beans and more.
